LEON M. LEDERMAN AWARD 2006


We are looking for two Mexican physics or engineering students interested in participate in a summer stay research in Fermi National Laboratory (Fermilab, at Chicago USA) and in Los Alamos National Laboratory Los Alamos, at New México USA).

As an experimental physics student you will work with members of experimental research group performing experiments in a variety of novel and exciting projects at Fermilab or Los Alamos. You will be assigned to learn and support the designing and developing of experiments using the facilities of these laboratories in collaboration with other group members and external collaborators.
The summer stay will be three months long (June-august), and almost all expenses will be paid by the laboratories: the student selected to go to Fermilab will receive lodging and meals but not the travel ticket, which must be paid himself. The student selected to go to Los Alamos will receive lodging and travel ticket but not the meals, which must be paid by him.

Required skills for candidates

Some experience in techniques in laboratory work.
Good knowledge in basics and modern physics and in computation.
Fluent in English language.
Mexican by birth, 23 years old maximum with military service fulfilled.
Active student in public Mexican university at most en 3rd year at the date of competition.
Minimum average grading of 8.0
Three recommendation letters of professionals in related research fields with their personal details.

Schedule will be as follows:

November 19 dead line to receive documents
December 10-16 (2005) registration.
January 13 (2006) examination on basic and moder physics and in computation (in English).
(9 to 12 hours). Oral exposition of the assigned subject of the five finalists.
January 14 (2006) results of first to fifth places.
